RODEO/WESTERN ART

My interest in rodeo goes back many years to when my family would make a yearly trip to the annual rodeo in Ft. Madison, IA.  Fast forward to now after making the move from Chicago to Sturgis, SD.  The rodeo culture is very much alive and well in this area and each year several large rodeos take place in the Black Hills.  As a photographer, rodeos present a number of challenges.  The variety of events and the fast moving action provide serious challenges to your skills.  There are classic rodeo "shots" that most of the PRCA sanctioned photographers must get and then there are all the others.  My rodeo photography tends to fall into the latter category.  I try to present all the "other" elements that occur during the events that may not get the attention that classic shots get.  While I do enjoy getting the "classic" shots, I lean towards images not otherwise seen, and oftentimes, not the most glamorous or popular.
